Description

This case is a cautionary tale about the consequences of cheating in business school. It is ideal for new business students. Honor Code (A) details the circumstances that led to the main character’s slip in judgment, and asks students how to proceed. Case (B) is the resulting outcome.

This case was originally developed for executive-MBA students, but it will be appropriate for all levels of business programs. For a version geared towards undergraduate and other graduate-level students, please see A Difficult Course (A) and A Difficult Course (B).

Teaching Objectives

After reading and discussing the material, students should:

  • Recognize the long-term consequences of breaking or helping someone else break the honor code.
  • Use discernment when faced with ethical dilemmas.
