Mary Conway Dato-on

Associate Professor of International Business; Rollins College

Mary Conway Dato-on, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of International Business at Rollins College, Crummer Graduate School of Business, where she teaches international business, marketing, and social entrepreneurship. She also leads biannual global consulting projects — mentoring student-led teams to solve real-world business issues. Her teaching service extends across several countries including the United States, Denmark, Spain, Japan, China, and the Philippines. She speaks several languages, including Spanish, Japanese, and Tagalog. Prior to coming to Rollins she was Associate Professor of Marketing and Director of the International Business Center at Northern Kentucky University. She has also taught at Xavier University, University of Kentucky, East China University of Science and Technology, Aarhus University-European Summer School of Advanced Management, the Ateneo de Manila University in the Philippines, and EOI Business School in Spain. Dr. Conway Dato-on was selected for a 2013-2014 Fulbright U.S. scholar grant to conduct research on social entrepreneurship in the Mexican context with Rollins’ partner school, IPADE School of Business.

Dr. Conway Dato-on’s corporate experience includes positions in the Philippines, Japan and the United States. During her time in the Philippines, she served as a Corporate Consultant with John Clements Consultants Inc. and as Marketing Director for a Philippine Mahogany Door Manufacturer. While in Japan, she worked for two years with the Japanese government and one year as a cross-cultural communications trainer in Kobe. Work in the United States included positions as an Area Marketing Manager for Ford Motor Company and four years as a Corporate Trainer for Xavier University specializing in Japanese management and cross-cultural transition issues.

Dr. Conway Dato-on’s research interests include nonprofit branding, social entrepreneurship, cross-cultural consumer behavior, as well as gender and ethics in marketing. In 2012 her book, Introduction to Nonprofit Management: Text and Cases, co-authored with W. Glenn Rowe was published. The work also included four Ivey cases based on her work with nonprofit organization in different sectors. In addition, her research has appeared in several journals including: International Entrepreneurship and Management Journal, International Journal of Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Marketing, The Business Journal of Hispanic Research, The International Journal of the Academic Business World, Journal of Developmental Entrepreneurship, International Journal of Shopping Center Research, Psychology and Marketing Journal, Journal of Marketing Theory and Practice, and Journal of Business-to-Business Marketing, among others. Her work has received three Best Paper Awards.

Dr. Conway Dato-on serves the local community as President of the Board of Directors for Ten Thousand Villages of Winter Park, FL. She also donates her time to the Rollins College Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership Center by leading seminars and consulting projects in nonprofit branding. To serve her profession, Dr. Conway Dato-on regularly reviews for academic publications and acts as track chair for conferences.
