Georgy Shukaylo is a third-year PhD candidate in the Department of Sport Management at the University of Michigan. Prior to arriving at Michigan, he earned his doctoral candidacy in Economics at the University of Arkansas, and also holds a master’s degree in Regional Planning from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. At Michigan, under the direction of Dr. Judith Grant Long, he continues to explore economic and financial implications of the NCAA sports, specifically focusing on the current exogenous factors of Name, Image, and Likeness deals, the NCAA Transfer Portal, and the expansion of sports betting into intercollegiate athletics. Aside from his main dissertation focus, Georgy is exploring behavioral and labor economics issues in such sports as mixed martial arts, hockey, and biathlon.
