Michael Provitera
Associate Professor of Organizational Behavior; Barry University
Michael Provitera began his career in management and finance in the financial services industry, originally working on Wall Street for Merrill Lynch, Saloman Brothers, and Morgan Stanley. After completing his academic studies and earning his MBA at St. John’s University in the School of Business and his D.B.A. at Nova Southeastern University in the H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship, Professor Provitera began a career in higher education at Saint Peter’s College as an assistant professor in September of 2000. In January 2004, he transferred to Barry University in Miami, Florida.
He is now an Associate Professor of Organizational Behavior at Barry University. He was assistant academic coordinator for multiple years and has been an active member of the department, serving for many years on faculty committees and on various other departmental and university level committees. He has been responsible for course development in the Administration concentration in both the undergraduate and graduate program and has participated on several search committees for new faculty. He recently conducted and presented to the Graduate Studies Council for the Program Review of the Master of Arts in Administration.
His academic interests are primarily in the areas of management education, motivation, and organizational behavior. He is currently a management consultant and author of the book “Mastering Self-Motivation.”
Publications:
In addition to many scholarly articles on management education, Michael is the author of the books titled “Mastering Self-Motivation.” The first (subtitled “Preparing Yourself for Personal Excellence”) was primarily written for undergraduate students and business owners, and the second (subtitled “Bringing Together the Academic and Popular Literature”) was primarily written for graduate students and executives. He published and presented his research in various venues in North America and is very active in the Academy of Management annual meetings. For many years, Professor Provitera has served as a management consultant to many small businesses and corporate clients and has written proprietary reports based on studies and analyses of business practices.
