Dana Sumpter
Associate Professor of Organization Theory & Management; Pepperdine University's Graziadio Business School
Dana Sumpter is Associate Professor of Organization Theory and Management at Pepperdine’s Graziadio Business School and was previously Associate Professor of Management/HRM at California State University Long Beach. She received her Ph.D. in Management from the University of California Irvine, and MS and BS degrees from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Sumpter was also Vice President of Human Resources at Citigroup, both in New York and as an expatriate in Singapore. She is an executive educator who has taught leaders across 11 countries, and an avid traveler who has visited over 30 countries. She teaches cross-cultural management, human resource management and diversity and inclusion. Her research employs a cross-cultural lens in investigating social work systems, studying topics including energy, mindfulness, power, and work relationships. She also studies systems of work/family enrichment, gender, and inclusion in organizations. Sumpter has published across many journals, including the Journal of Applied Psychology, Academy of Management Perspectives, Human Resource Management, and Journal of Management Studies. She has a popular TEDx talk entitled “Don’t Underestimate Working Mothers.”
