Description

Marissa Mercado has been hired as the environmental management specialist of the National Solid Waste Management Commission-Secretariat. It will be her job to coordinate with local government units for proper solid waste management. This will include the closure of open dump sites as well as the conversion of controlled dump sites to sanitary landfills in accordance with Republic Act 9003. Students are asked to develop plans for the closure of illegal dump facilities.

Teaching Objectives

After reading and discussing the material, students should:

  • Determine the proper implementation of RA 9003.
  • Identify key roles and functions of authorities in line with SWM.
  • Formulate a plan to address illegal dump facilities.
