Description

Evelyn Estigoy, owner of Merryland Campsite — a Batangas City, Philippines-based business with a strong commitment to serving God — is considering rehabilitating and redeveloping her campsite, but she can barely cover the costs of maintenance and repair, especially after rainy seasons. She is considering financing options, but a high interest rate could become a burden over the long term. She is also looking into a partnership. Whichever way she goes, she is concerned that revenues will not cover the costs of the work. Students are asked to perform a SWOT analysis and develop strategies to address both the strong and weak sides of the business. They are also expected to identify sources of funding and predict return on investment (ROI)as well as design a master plan for the campsite’s proposed amenities.

Teaching Objectives

After reading and discussing the material, students should:

  • Identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats facing Merryland and develop solutions to address both the strong and weak sides of the business.
  • Formulate prevention and control methods.
  • Identify sources of funding and predict ROI.
  • Design a master plan for the facilities and amenities proposed in Appendix A of the case.
