This case portrays the challenges of a sole proprietor when his business advances from start-up to growth stage. Francisco Cruz, owner of Ione’s Dorm, has invested in expanding his dorm but now faces a host of internal and external challenges, from rent collection to outdated systems. He starts to feel the limitations of his informal way of doing business as he grapples with the new operational challenges and external pressures of his growing business.
