Description

Crossroads for a Young Entrepreneur details a career dilemma faced by Jaap Bala, a recent graduate, who created a successful business with his peers while at university and now faces questions about his future. Should Bala continue to focus on the business he has helped create, or should he turn his attention to pursuing his career independently? If Bala continues his work with the business, how should he proceed to steward it on its path to success?

Teaching Objectives

After reading and discussing the material, students should:

  • Compare and contrast how Jaap and his partners could build their start-up according to how entrepreneurial literature suggests it should be done.
  • Identify the key success factor of the start-up.
  • Appraise the readiness of Jaap and his friends for starting a business.
  • Evaluate the ability of the partners to sustain their business.
