Description

Johnny Cruz joined Best Builders as its safety officer just one month ago. During this time, he has witnessed a number of minor injuries on the company’s condominium project worksite. He wants to get the company’s workers certified with health and safety training, but the company’s owner sees the certification as just another expense. The owner also is against the training because he feels that once he pays for it, his workers will seek opportunities elsewhere. In the meantime, Cruz is having nightmares knowing that major accidents could happen at any time. Students are asked to gain an understanding of the company’s work site health and safety problems and to recommend solutions.

Teaching Objectives

After reading and discussing the material, students should:

  • Analyze the safety issues facing Best Builders.
  • Identify ways to make workers come into compliance with safety standards.
  • Recommend strategies for improving safety on site.
