DESCRIPTION: This case was written for a class in the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women Initiative, which aims to bring high-quality business and management education to 10,000 underserved women around the world. It was taught in classes consisting of about 30 women entrepreneurs each in Kigali, Rwanda, and it described the banana wine business of Christine Murebwayire, an alumnus of the program. In the case, Murebwayire faces different options to grow her banana wine cooperative business, including increasing production, investing money in domestic marketing, increasing exports in Africa, and starting an entirely new product line, like items made from banana fiber. Students must do a SWOT analysis and consider the trade-offs and/or limitations involved with each option, including the possibility of applying for a business loan.
